“I got my first electric vehicle in 2022 to save on petrol and do my bit for the planet. What I did not expect was how stressful charging becomes when you cannot do it at home.

I spent too many afternoons sitting in the car waiting for a public charger to free up, hoping I could top up before school pick up. And far more Saturday afternoons at IKEA than anyone ever needs, simply because it was the closest place with a charger that worked. I loved driving electric, but I did not love planning my life around finding somewhere to plug in.

When we finally installed a home charger the difference was instant. Convenient, reliable and only $4 a week to power the car when we used to spend $150 on petrol. But instead of simply enjoying that peace, something bothered me. My neighbours living a few streets away in apartments or renting had none of this convenience. They wanted the same cheap, low emission transport but were stuck with the stress I knew too well. It felt unfair. If we can share cars and homes, why not chargers. That simple idea became the spark for ivygo.

Fast forward to December 2024 and ivygo went live. Six months on, I host two of my neighbours every week. They get convenient and affordable charging. I get my electricity bill covered. A win for everyone.

Today ivygo helps businesses welcome EV drivers through convenient and bookable charging, but the heart of the idea has not changed. Charging should be simple, fair and community powered. It should support families, local businesses and entire regions at a time when cost of living pressures are real and climate action matters more than ever.
