NSW’s New 0% Interest Loans Make It Easier Than Ever to Install an EV Charger

Thinking about installing an EV charger at home?

The NSW Government’s new Home Energy Saver Program is helping eligible homeowners and landlords electrify their homes with 0% interest loans of up to $15,000, repayable over up to 10 years. The program supports a range of upgrades, including EV chargers, solar panels, batteries and switchboard upgrades, helping households reduce energy bills and prepare for an electric future.

And if you’re eligible for the upcoming Home Energy Saver discount, you may be able to combine a discount of up to $4,000 with a loan to reduce the upfront cost even further.

What is the Home Energy Saver Program?

Home Energy Saver is a NSW Government initiative designed to help households lower energy bills, improve comfort and accelerate home electrification.

The program currently offers:

  • 0% interest loans of up to $15,000, available now.
  • Repayment terms of up to 10 years.
  • Discounts of up to $4,000, coming later in 2026 for eligible lower-income households and concession card holders.

Turn Your EV Charger into an Income-Generating Asset

A dedicated EV charger makes owning an electric vehicle easier and more convenient.

But your charger can do more than charge your own car.

Most home chargers sit unused for much of the day. Through the ivygo app, homeowners can choose to share their charger with neighbours when they’re not using it and earn extra income from an asset they’ve already invested in.

Think of it as Airbnb for EV chargers.

As an ivygo host, you can:

  • Set your own availability and pricing.
  • Approve bookings or automate the process.
  • Earn extra income from charging sessions.
  • Make better use of excess solar generation.
  • Help neighbours and visitors charge with confidence.
  • Support the transition to electric transport.

Example: Your Charger Could Help Pay for Itself

Imagine you install a 7 kW EV charger using the NSW Home Energy Saver Program.

If you drive around 30 km a day, like the average Australian, you’ll likely only need to charge your EV once or twice a week. The rest of the time, your charger is sitting unused.

By listing it on ivygo and making it available while you’re at work or when you’re not using it, a neighbour without off-street parking could book a couple of charging sessions each week.

You earn some extra income, make better use of your solar and help another EV driver charge close to home.

Instead of sitting idle, your charger becomes an asset that benefits both your household and your community.

Curious how much you could earn?

Use the free ivygo host calculator to estimate the income you could generate by sharing your charger with neighbours and visitors:

Because an EV charger shouldn’t just save you money — it can help pay for itself too.
